Since November 2025, Best Buy has used an invitation system for Pokémon TCG releases online — reported as a first for a U.S. big-box retailer. Here's how it works (as of Oct 2026).

Step by step

  1. Log in to your Best Buy account.
  2. Go to the product page and click the "Invite" button.
  3. Around release date, Best Buy notifies you if you've been selected.
  4. If chosen, you have 24 hours to complete the purchase.
  5. If not chosen, you stay on the item's list in case of future restocks.

The bot check

PokéBeach reported that while you wait, Best Buy runs an algorithm to judge whether your account may be a bot, considering factors such as purchase history, membership status and browser behavior. Flagged accounts won't receive an invite. How effective this is remains unclear.

Legit tips

  • Use your real, established account — a normal purchase history is one of the reported factors.
  • Use a normal browser; avoid automation tools or extensions that script clicks.
  • Check email (and spam) around release so you don't miss your 24-hour window.
  • Request invites only for items you'll actually buy.

In-store purchases at Best Buy work as before — the invite system covers online only.
